Which is more important- LOVE or RESPECT?

***NOTE: I understand that what I am quoting is Biblical scripture, but I do not wish for the discussion to turn into a religious one. That being said….

“…each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.”
How much truth do you think this passage holds up in modern times? Focusing on this alone, one could assume that in a relationship, it is more important that the husband be respected and the wife be loved than the other way around. I understand that you do need both, but do you feel that one really means more to the opposite sex than the other? Do you think that telling the husband “I love you but don’t respect you” would have the same impact as telling the wife “I respect you but I do not love you”?

  1. Respect is the foundation of love. Honor, honesty, courage, courtesy and respect all lead up to the principle joy of love. In Love you find the boundless energy of enthusiasm and commitment to pursue sharing. Whether it is your sibling or your spouse several principles of consideration and that includes respect are needed for love.

  2. I believe that love and respect go hand in hand, because if you love someone you won't disrespect them, and if you respect someone you can love them. It is impossible to truly love someone you don't respect.
