MANILA, Philippines – The University of the Philippines Pep Squad earned themselves another year of bragging rights, annexing their third-straight championship in the Samsung 2012 UAAP Cheerdance Competition at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay today.

The Diliman-based cheerdance team bagged the title with a well-executed routine that featured flawlessly formed pyramids by its members – all of whom sported shaven heads – to wow the record 19,509 fans at the venue.
It was UP’s eighth overall championship, with the school tying record-holder University of Santo Thomas as the teams with the most number of titles in the annual competition.

UP was also awarded P343,000 for the victory.

Far Eastern University settled for first runner-up and a P200,000 cash prize – an improvement from its second runner-up finish last year – with its jungle-inspired performance.

This year's hosts National University – with its Disney-themed routine – took home the second runner-up trophy and a P140,000 cash prize. It was the school’s first podium finish in the competition.

UST ended up fifth, followed by La Salle, Ateneo, Adamson and UE.
